Epson EH-LS100 – Home Cinema Projector [REVIEW]

Featuring the Ultra Short Throw Laser Technology and Projection System, the Epson EH-LS100 is the kind of projector that does not require special installation conditions and can be used for a long time without replacing expensive supplies such as the projection lamp. The layout is made on a table placed just above the projection surface, or fixed to the ceiling, the diagonal of the image being expandable to encompass the entire wall without the dimensions of the room limiting the projection distance

Designed for use in rooms with or without ambient light sources, the Epson EH-LS100 includes both Cinema Cinema mode optimized for silent operation, but also Bright Cinema mode that optimizes contrast and brightness for optimum viewing visibility.

It has to be said that the Epson EH-LS100 also has some disadvantages, the Ultra Short Throw system with oblique light incidence amplifying the flatness differences of the projection surface, deforming the image. Therefore, it is necessary to use a dedicated projection surface, the best results being obtained with UST-optimized products, which reject the ambient light without filtering and the projected side image

Although the Epson EH-LS100 is designed for home, it also features business-class features: three HDMI inputs and split-screen display, two USB connectors, Ethernet and remote control

As part of Epson's premium range, the EH-LS100 is a 3LCD video projector optimized for multimedia content and movie viewing. The model uses a 10-bit image processor configuration and three different LCD filters, each of which is responsible for rendering a basic RGB color. Finally, the 1920x1200 pixel resolution can differentiate between 1.073 billion colors, the accuracy being comparable to a professional photo editing monitor. Thanks to the technologies used, the Epson EH-LS100 boasts a 2500,000: 1 contrast ratio and an impressive black level that helps keep an authentic atmosphere in dark scenes in movies. Additionally, the fluency of motion in dynamic scenes is provided using a 240Hz refresh rate in 2D mode. Less and less popular in recent years, 3D content support has been abandoned for the EH-LS100.

Powered by a laser light system, the Epson EH-LS100 can reproduce images with a diagonal size of 177 to 330 centimeters, the autofocus system delivering optimal image clarity in any situation. The model also offers separate zoom and geometry compensation (Keystone Correction) in the ± 30 ° range available in the configuration menu. The lighting system is certified for 20000 hours of service life under normal conditions of use and 30000 hours when using ECO mode. Penalizing only slightly the maximum light output, the ECO mode reduces energy consumption by over 90W and attenuates fan noise to a comfortable level for use in rooms without other ambient noise sources

The Epson EH-LS100 video projector, in a black-matte plastic case with an elegant design and a large volume construction, requires a solid and solid installation support capable of sustaining a weight of 11 Kg

The front, the device does not have much distinctive features. Instead, the top-of-the-line optical assembly avoids potential obstacles in the immediate vicinity, allowing the projector to be positioned next to other bulky equipment. The connectors are placed sideways, hidden behind a removable lid that leaves only the most popular options visible. The complete list includes S-Video, Component, Composite and HDMI connectors (2 pcs). We also find an RS-232 port for using remote control systems, or a USB 2.0 port useful for eventual firmware updates
