The ZenFone 4 smartphone series was launched last fall and ASUS used us for one-year launches, so we expected the ZenFone 5 series to be released only in the fall of 2018. It seems, however, plans are slightly accelerated, the ZenFone 5 Max model (ASUS_X00QD model number) is already at a rather advanced stage of development that has already received certification from the WiFi Alliance
Despite the fact that we do not know much about the hardware of the phone, we can assume that it will be positioned on the market as a mid-range model, just like its predecessors in the "family" Max. This name also confirms that the device will be aimed at long autonomy and that it will most likely be equipped with an over-average battery. Since ASUS has already launched some edge-to-edge devices with medium hardware in some regions, it is likely that this model will follow this example. The only concrete detail listed on the WiFi Alliance site is the pre-installed operating system: Android 8.0 Oreo
This is not the first device in the ZenFone 5 series that I have heard over the past few months. There have been some rumors about a ZenFone 5 Lite, probably a "modest" version of the next flagship.
As the next major event in the mobile devices industry will be the Mobile World Congress 2018, which will take place in the last week of February, there is a chance that the full range of ZenFone 5 products will be launched at this event
