Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-52-50YX) review: Top performance becomes more accessible (Laptops)

<-----sponsored ADS----->

Once or sometimes twice a year, portable computer manufacturers are launching new laptop variants, offering the latest CPUs, graphics chips and storage drives. The new Nitro 5 from Acer is launched to mark the launch of the eighth-generation Intel processors on the Coffee Lake architecture, promising better performance with a similar energy consumption as last year. At the same time, the whole processor range has received extra cores and threads, which could mean good performance at lower prices

Construction, design, ergonomics

Acer has never been a company for design to be very important, and Nitro 5 continues this "tradition." The exterior design of this laptop is more of a utility, keeping the lines I've encountered in the past on the VX15 or Predator Helios, but decorating the cover with a carbon texture that has the advantage of not clutching prints. The texture is pleasant to touch and the plastic from which the cover is made seems to be resistant, being different from the one on the bottom.

But the part around the keyboard is made of aluminum, something I've encountered over the past few years on most acer laptops, while the keyboard and trackpad are unchanged from previous models. We have a complete keyboard with a slightly cramped number, with well-spaced buttons and a medium stroke. The red illumination is in tune with the chromatic tint of the carcass accents around the trackpad and below the display and can not be customized

At the bottom we have a cheaper plastic lid, the same one found around the display, but it offers an edge over other Acer laptops in the past: fast access to two components. The right-hand cover provides access to RAM, while the left one provides access to a slot for connecting SATA drives. Since the tested system came equipped with an SSD M.2 only, we could only find the SATA support and port here. Removing caps is simple, requiring each one screw
