We all want to always have performing computers as small as possible, preferably portable and especially ... cheap. Of course, these things are not possible together, so when we choose a portable computer we do it according to needs. The current model, Spin 5 from Acer, is not trying to be either the strongest or the most spectacular, but seems to be more interested in solving the problem of those who need a portable, easy-to-use, a number of advantages in addition to other competing models.

Construction, design, ergonomics

Acer Spin 5 is a convertible 2-in-1 computer, which means it can be used in both classical, laptop and tablet mode. At 13 "in diagonal and 1.6 kg, tablet use does not make much sense, but those who prefer interaction through a touchscreen and / or the stylus included in the box (the same one I've ever met to other Acer devices) have this option.

Being a small computer, the Spin 5 keyboard is not complete. On the right, the numpad is missing, but the keys are of normal size, spaced appropriately to ensure a more comfortable user experience. Those who used Acer laptops in the past know what to expect. We have to deal with a white-backlit keyboard, with medium-sized keys that output normal sound: neither silent nor disturbing. The trackpad is also of normal size, with no button design, and a capacitive fingerprint sensor is implemented in the upper left corner

For such a small laptop, Spin 5 manages to impress on connectivity, especially if we take into account other similar devices on the market. We have two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a USB 2.0, a USB 3 Type-C, a HDMI and an SD card reader plus a combo audio jack. The power and volume buttons are located on the right side of the laptop while the owner's charging port is on the left.

Strangely, however, Acer does not yet offer a USB Type-C charger on its small-size computers. Completely absent, however, is an Ethernet port, the reduced size being probably the reason why it was not integrated. There is no USB Ethernet adapter in the package, so you will need to buy one separately or use Wi-Fi.

From a design point of view, the Acer Spin 5 is better built than other Taiwanese models, even in the gaming range. We have a complete aluminum case, from the screen cover, to the keyboard area and the bottom cover. The plastic can not be seen anywhere, around the display being a glass panel. Unfortunately, despite the fact that we are talking about a 13 "screen laptop, it could be much smaller if the edges around the screen were low. For 2018, Spin 5 may seem outdated on the outside.
