Apple laptops from newer generations benefit from keyboards made using a new technology that allows you to make very short strokes and a very small profile, resulting in MacBook models much thinner than in the past. But this design has a very big problem that fans have cried a lot in the last year: the buttons can be locked if some very small foreign bodies come under the key. But now, Apple recognizes the problem and provides free repair to those affected

It seems that the plethora of complaints to the customer service and a court process for this hardware problem finally have effects, with the company officially recognizing the problem. All MacBook models equipped with the new keyboard are eligible for free repair for replacing or repairing the keyboard. Moreover, those who have previously paid for a keyboard service operation will be able to ask for the money back

Since this keyboard model first appeared in 2015 on the MacBook Retina, about all the Apple laptops launched in the meantime fall under the repair program:

  • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
  • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016)
  • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)

Users will be able to request free repair in both Apple stores and authorized service. Of course, before the repair, the technicians will check the computer to ensure that the problem did not come from a mechanical shock or water contact. Also, this repair will be possible for up to four years after the purchase of the computer, whether or not it is under warranty.
