There was little detail about the DJI Mavic Air droning that I did not know before the official launch, but now that the Chinese manufacturer has presented it in all its splendor, we have a complete list of specifications along with pictures from all angles with it. Indeed, Mavic Air will bid somewhere between DJI Spark and DJI Mavic Pro, its capabilities being in line with the expectations of such a product.

Mavic Air retains the folding design of Mavic Pro, but it is slightly modified. Since the droning body is smaller, the propeller folding system is slightly different, and the "landing gear" is composed of only two parts which in turn fold on the front propellers. The latter also serve the WiFi antenna function, which is used for remote control of the drones.

The video camera is equipped with a 12 megapixel sensor with a f / 2.8 lens and is mounted on an active three-axis stabilizer, not very different from Mavic Pro. Since the lens is a bit darker, nighttime video will not be as detailed as the ones on the more expensive drones. Fortunately, choosing a chipset capable of recording at 4K at 30 frames per second will provide a superior video quality to the Spark Drum.

In the special features chapter, the drona features hand-gesture control, like the Spark Drum, smartphone control, and remote control from the package, which offers a range of up to 4 kilometers. Also, automatic subject tracking or obstacle avoidance can be enabled from the dedicated smartphone application. Last but not least, the drone also benefits from 8GB of internal storage space, but most will surely use the microSD slot for movies and photos

With dimensions of only 168 x 83 x 49 mm when folded and 168 x 184 x 64 mm when opened, the Mavic Air drones weigh only 430 grams and can fly for 21 minutes at a single charge at speeds that can reaches 70 kilometers per hour in Sport mode

Mavic Air will go on offer from January 28th and will be available in three colors: Arctic White, Onyx Black and Flame Red. The price is US $ 799, while an extra battery costs $ 79, and a spare propeller costs $ 9. The propeller package also includes propeller protectors useful to avoid accidents for those who have not used drones in the past
