The Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 650 gets along with high-end graphics cards thanks to the powerful “Thunderbolt 3” interface. The company also claims the case can easily handle the latest AMD (Radeon RX Vega 64) and NVIDIA (GeForce GTX 10) top models. To cover the increased power needs of the cards, Sonnet has equipped the Breakaway Box with a 650 Watt power supply. Due to Thunderbolt 3 and the integrated power supply, no additional charging cable is required when operating on a current MacBook, since the housing can supply the MacBook with up to 87 watts of power while using an eGPU.
According to the manufacturer, the device is equipped with a 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 port that allows data transfer of up to 2,750 MB / s while supporting all Thunderbolt-compatible graphics cards. These include the following models: AMD Radeon R9, RX, RX, RX Vega and Pro WX models and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9 and 10 series, Titan X and Xp, V and Quadro® models. In order to cool the cards sufficiently, a quiet fan always ensures the correct temperature.
Interested users do not have to wait long for the release. The company announces that the eGFX Breakaway Box 650 can now be purchased in stores. The price for the case amounts to 479 euros.
