facial recognition and fingerprinting technology used to monitor real-time metro journeys
The project targeting one of the world's busiest metro networks will allow authorities to know in real time the identity, location and route of any person using this means of transport
According to China Daily, Chinese authorities intend to use biometric scanning technologies as a means of discouraging fraudulent metro travel bypassing tolling systems. People who choose to travel fraudulently will be identified in transit using facial recognition technologies.
Coming in the "support" of the good faith travelers, the Chinese authorities will introduce a new system that allows the use of the palm fingerprint as an alternative to the traditional travel ticket
Although it would seem strange and even abusive in other regions of the world, the use of facial recognition technologies in the public domain is not exactly new in China, with local laws already permitting mass-scale mass media to be used under close coordination of authorities.
