Google presents Android 9 Pie Go Edition, the "lightest" version of Android for low-cost phones
Android Go made its debut last year as a simplified edition of Android 8.1 Oreo, and has since managed to equip more than 200 smartphone models, marketed in more than 120 countries
Meanwhile, Google unveiled the new version of Android 9 Pie, it's just a matter of time before it is adapted to the Android Go format
According to the company, Pie Go takes up less space in device memory, making it possible to launch smartphone products with up to 8GB storage space or less for emerging markets and buyers for whom price is the main factor in making a purchase decision.
By the end of this year, another 100 OEMs will launch smartphone-based Android Go models
Google promises that each smartphone equipped with Android Pie Go will have 5.5GB of free memory in the memory with a total capacity of 8GB, even after installing the first updates. For comparison, the previous version of Oreo Go takes 500MB more, and an Android Oreo non-Go installation would leave only 2.5GB of 8GB of an entry-level phone.
The Android Go version of the Google platform also comes packaged with a selection of "Go" applications optimized for efficient use of memory and processor resources. They are available for download in the Google Play store, including phones running standard Android versions
