Harry Potter and the In-App Purchases of Death

Since the middle of last week, "Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery" is now available on the App Store Ingt first time for many players not unsettling, but you play a young wizard who has just been freshly recorded at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the game you should explore the different areas of the castle and learn powerful spells. And then the game is also offered for free in the App Store, so it can be tried by any player without risk. Unfortunately, there is not too small a hook.

As with many free-to-play titles, playing requires some form of energy. This can either be filled with real money via in-app purchases or the player simply waits for a certain period of time until the energy has filled itself again. There are always titles that can also play for free without in-app purchases very well. Unfortunately, the new Harry Potter RPG does not seem to be such a game.

Here, the energy is almost never enough to solve a complete mission. That alone is annoying, but unfortunately players can not just wait until the energy is full again, because the missions are self-assigned with a time limit. Unfortunately, the necessary energy does not fill up fast enough to complete the task within the time window. So if you want to play the game in the first step, you have to constantly buy energy from in-app buyers. And those are not very cheap with up to 110 euros.

There is resistance in many forums against such titles, but unfortunately there are enough players willing to make the in-app purchases, giving the developers a higher profit than a game paid for by a one-time price must become. Whether the development studio Jam City and Warner Bros. have done a favor with this model, however, will show.
