Samsung is still trying to force Galaxy smartphone users to use the Bixby virtual assistant somehow, blocking on some devices even the ability to disable the dedicated button. While on the Galaxy S8, Note8 and S9, the company offered users the ability to stop this feature on Note9, the deactivation setting has completely disappeared. Fortunately, there is already an "unofficial" solution to this problem.
Before Samsung offered software updates to deactivate the Bixby button, various apps on the Google Play Store promised this capability. It seems that in the case of Galaxy Note9 it was necessary to launch the new bxActions, an application that can not only completely disable the Bixby button, but also provide new functionality by setting new shortcuts
bxActions offers the ability to set two actions, one at short press and one at long press, such as turning on the flashlight, activating Google Assistant, or capturing a screenshot. However, not all functions are compatible with Bixby 2.0 . The application creator warns users not to update Bixby, as a new version could interfere with bxActions. He also believes that Samsung will try to block the app in a future version of the software.
As noted in the Galaxy Note9 review, Bixby works decent to drive some of the operating system's features, if you speak to him in English without a very pronounced accent, but it is almost useless for searches in a natural language of online information. For a so important function for Samsung, the company should offer a much better alternative to Google Assistant, Alexa, or Siri
