The ranking scale of the Laptop Mag is based on a maximum of 100 points, 40 points for “Test Results”, 20 for “Support & Warranty”, 15 for r “Selection and Sustainability”, 15 for “Design” and 10 for “Innovation”. The first three brands in the ranking were Lenovo with 86 points, Hewlett Packard with 85 points and Dell with 82 points. Apple finished seventh with 72 points. In 2017, Apple managed to reach fifth place. Now even Microsoft is ahead of Apple.
Laptop Mag says that Apple still offers the best support and warranty for notebooks, but in the other areas it lacks. Although the MacBooks are good machines, have over time, there were hardly any improvements and only small increases in speed. Also on touchscreens, which the competition offers for a long time, Apple pats for laptop according to Mag. Interestingly, Tim Cook has recently dealt in an interview with the topic touchscreen Macs. He reiterated that such designs would require too many compromises and it was a deliberate decision by Apple not to offer touchscreens.
In addition, Apple offers according to Laptop Mag only a minimal selection: Apple’s only notebook under $ 1,000 is the outdated MacBook Air. All other MacBooks start only from $ 1,299. In addition, there are no USB 3.0 ports on the modern MacBooks, while the MacBook Air has no Type-C ports, just a Type-A port. Apple seems to have already noticed that it is not a good idea to only offer products at high prices. As a result, first appeared the new 9.7-inch iPad. It remains to be seen whether a cheaper 13-inch MacBook will be released.
Particularly subjective is the design ranking, in which Lenovo scored many points, even though most of the Chinese manufacturer’s notebooks only come with a plastic cover. Despite this, the company received 13 out of 15 points in this area and Apple only 11 out of 15.
