In the past two years, Nintendo has made first steps in the mobile gaming market and was able to celebrate even smaller successes with Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp fiscal year (2017), sales of almost 300 million euros were generated. The aspiring Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa wants to more than double that value. He also wants to publish significantly more gaming apps for iOS and Android devices. At the same time an app or a game is to be created on the level of a Pokémon Go, which remains popular in the long term.

Nikkei let the early CEO partially participate in his plans, but still kept a lot for himself. So he responded to the question of an augmented reality game and said that he “can not say that there are any (games) of this kind”. He also remained rather vague about the question of the potential hit. So, it’s unclear whether you’ll see a well-known hero here, or whether Nintendo will create a completely new franchise.

At the same time, Furukawa suggests that, in addition to partnering with DeNA, they would like to get more developers on board to publish more titles. Currently, there are officially only two titles under development (“Mario Kart Tour” & “Dragalia Lost”) that will be released later this year. Rumor has it that a “The Legend of Zelda” title for iOS is also planned.
