Most carcasses have only one role: to protect those devices from bumps and scratches. Sometimes, however, these accessories are out of the ordinary. An example is SWORD, a smartphone case that can detect weapons.
Developed by the Japanese Royal Holdings, it includes a 3D scanner. It can be used to see if people around you (within a radius of 40 meters) have hidden weapons. SWORD also includes a facial recognition feature that can compare faces with some of a list of people searched by the police.
The case will be available for iPhone 8 Plus and Pixel 2 XL. SWORD costs $ 950, and supplies to customers will begin in 2019. For the facial recognition service, you'll need a $ 30 subscription per month.
