Xiaomi Launches Black Shark, Its First Gaming Smartphone
Last week's rumors about a Xiaomi "gaming smartphone" in partnership with the Black Shark brand were confirmed late last week. The new Black Shark is a high-end device dedicated to gamers and the first real Razer Phone competitor on the new niche of smartphones designed specifically to run video games. Of course, we are talking about a very powerful smartphone that comes with a number of surprises that could make it attractive for those who are not interested in gaming.
Xiaomi's Black Shark comes with an exciting, even unique design, made with green accents and a more peculiar back that makes your phone more comfortable during gaming sessions. It benefits from the normal power and volume buttons on the right, but on the left there is a green slider button that activates an enhanced performance mode, all of the phone's resources being dedicated to playing the games.
Inside, the phone benefits from a "water-based" cooling system, says Xiaomi, but it is most likely passive cooling using a vapor chamber, something that has long been used on smartphones as well
This cooling system promises to reduce the temperatures of the Snapdragon 845 chipset by up to 8 degrees from a regular smartphone, an advantage that can bring extra performance by avoiding overheating and performance limitation for that. Along with the most powerful Qualcomm processor, there are two hardware configurations: one with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, and one with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. None of the variants feature a microSD card slot or headphone jack.
The phone also includes a 12 + 20 megapixel dual-camera system with a 20 megapixel front camera and a 4,000 mAh battery that should provide extended gaming autonomy. Unfortunately, in contrast to the Razer Phone that comes with a QHD display at 120Hz, Black Shark offers only a Full HD + 60Hz 6 "diagonal screen.
An interesting feature of the new Black Shark over other phones is the Black Shark Gamepad attachment, which is attached to the phone and provides access to an analog stick and a few physical buttons that will improve the game experience. It is sold separately.
Xiaomi Black Shark will be sold as of April 20 exclusively in China at affordable prices for the configuration provided. The basic model comes at 2,999 yuan, or 475 dollars, while the top model costs 3,499 yuan, or $ 550. Despite the fact that the phone comes with Android 8.1 at the factory, it runs the Joy UI interface, a new version of MIUI from Xiaomi. For this reason, Black Shark does not offer compatibility with Google Play Services and the Google Play Store, so importing such a device will be problematic. There is currently no information on the launch of this model in other regions
